Say Hello Saturday: Dan Clifford
Over the next few months, we’re going to be introducing all of our year-round permanent staff members to you. First up, say hello to Dan:
Name: Dan “MacGyver” Clifford
Job: Special Construction Projects Manager
How long have you worked at Cascades? Since March of 1988.
What do you like most about working at Cascades? I love creating. Building, in particular, is my favorite part. It’s kind of like life. You have to destroy before you can rebuild, demolish before you can create.
If you had to choose one camp food to eat every day for a year, what would you choose? Canadian cheese soup.
Most epic camp story? A number of years ago I was doing some work at Timber Rock around the area where the Rec Hall is currently. I was told to leave the pristine beauty below the Rec Hall alone to preserve the view, but within five minutes of receiving those instructions, I had accidentally rolled the bulldozer down the hill. Despite five complete end-over-end rotations, both the dozer and I came out okay. I spent the next hour down there, digging and pushing to get it upright again. By the time I was done, the once pristine beauty was a gravel pit – and that’s how the archery pit came to be!
What do you enjoy doing outside of your job at Cascades? I love dancing. My wife and I dance every chance we get – country couples dancing, specifically. I also enjoy singing and playing the guitar.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a logger, just like my daddy.
Thanks Dan! Cascades appreciates everything Dan has poured into this ministry over his many years of service here. From the waterfall he built down at the waterfront, to the fifteen log cabins he single-handedly constructed up at Timber Rock, you can bet that most buildings you see around Cascades have Dan’s fingerprints on them in some form or another.
